You may have noticed that Belvedere has been moved to a more prominent position at the entrance of the museum. This is in preparation for work to be started on renovating her. After sitting in our yard for well over 15 years we can finally start. Admittedly the first steps will be just to give her a bit of paint, this represents a major first step in preserving this lovely example of a Sentinel steam locomotive. Our long-term aim is to fully restore this locomotive to working order.
A first evaluation was undertaken of the sentinel locomotives on the NIRT site on 5th July 2020. Both locomotives (belvedere in green and Musketeer in blue) contain asbestos lagging / gaskets to steam pipes, boiler, and engine cylinders. Generally, this is in good / contained condition, but care must be taken around belvedere’s boiler.
