The next step in our renovation is to replace the full length running boards. We want to do this before the roof repairs as it will give us something to stand on whilst replacing the roof. These were removed when the boggies were replaced some years ago; as the replacement wheels were somewhat wider than the old ones.
Refurbishment always has to start somewhere, and the exposed verandah floors seemed like a really good place to start.
Two lots were ordered to the former LMSR design as no standard design had been decided in the first few years of British Railways' existence. They were an ongoing LMSR order, as they also had Derby LMSR Order Numbers. Both Lots were constructed at Derby.
Our desire is to restore brakevan 950061 to its original livery. When it was completed 29th October 1952 in the Derby works it would have been painted bauxite. The historic composition of this paint is given below.
